Geography & Environmental Studies

The UCCS Department of Geography & Environmental Studies (GES) offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, several minors, and a GIScience certificate.

Undergraduate (BA)

Bachelor of Arts (BA)
The purpose of the BA is to provide students with an understanding of the discipline of geography. This includes courses in physical, human, and cultural geography, as well as methods courses that provide exposure to geospatial technologies.

Undergraduate Minors

GES Minor
Students explore a range of emerging, interdisciplinary fields. The ability to think spatially and to understand how things are related are highly marketable in a changing, complex, and connected world.

Geology Minor
The Geology Minor is designed to improve students’ understanding of geologic processes and how these processes fit into environmental issues.

Sustainability Minor
Sustainability is about advancing environmental protection, promoting a fair and equitable society, and sustaining a robust economy that works for all.

Graduate (MA)

MA in Applied Geography
The MA in Applied Geography program requires that students conduct problem-solving research, think critically about spatial relationships, and communicate effectively. Graduates from the MA program go on to PhD programs, work with public agencies and non-profit organizations. Graduates are positioned to work as geospatial analysis in Military communities and find careers in fields related to environment, sustainability, and conservation.

GIScience Certificate

Geographic Information Science (GIScience) Certificate

Research Opportunities

In addition to our graduate degree program, our department faculty work with undergraduates on various research projects.
